Some of the deadliest heroin in the nation is found right here in Massachusetts. Over 450 people in Massachusetts died of heroin and other opiate overdoses in 2001. In 2003, there were over 36,000 admissions to heroin treatment programs in Massachusetts . Heroin can kill, even after one use. When heroin is injected, there is a greater risk of getting HIV/AIDS. Possession of heroin is a crime, punishable with jail time.
